Hear From Your Peers

Tutoring sessions are amazing! I love meeting with the online tutors, because they help me so much! Keep up the amazing work!

First-Year Student

The tutors have kept me going through a very tough time and their answers and encouragement have greatly increased my understanding!

BYU OHS Student

I appreciated how helpful the TA I met with was. He was able to explain so much to me in a way that I understood easily. The platform was also extremely easy to use and I was able to find a time and date that worked for me. The time zone syncing was especially helpful, since I am on a different time zone than the TA that I met with, but ConexEd really came through. I am looking forward to doing more speaking appointments with this platform!

Frequently Asked Questions About Tutoring
Do I need to be failing a class to use tutoring?

No, tutoring is a proactive tool for any student. You don’t have to be struggling to find these sessions helpful. Our free, one-on-one tutoring with trained peer tutors is designed to help you move forward with confidence.

Who are the tutors?

Our tutors are current BYU students who maintain strong academic records and understand the realities of balancing classes, work, and life. They are subject-specific experts who are nationally CRLA certified and carefully background-checked to ensure professionalism and safety. As experienced peers who have done well in their own courses, they are prepared to help you learn effectively. For quality review, all sessions are recorded so you can feel confident in the support you receive.

What subjects can I get help with?

We offer tutoring in a wide range of subjects, from core requirements to specialized topics. Support areas include High School and University Math, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physical & Earth Science, Computer Science & Technology, English, Writing Support, Humanities, Psychology, Sociology, Family Life, History, Government, Geography, Music, Business, Economics, Accounting, and Finance. Language support is available for ASL, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

What happens during a tutoring session?

Every session is built around what you need most. You will work with a Peer Tutor to review assignments and course materials, practice challenging homework problems, and build your understanding through guided support. You can also use this time to plan, organize, or revise projects and prepare for exams and quizzes.

Do I need to come prepared?

If you haven't had time to prepare, that is perfectly okay—please "come as you are" and we are happy to help. However, you will get the most out of your session if you bring specific questions, assignments, or topics you want to review. Reviewing your material thoroughly beforehand allows you and your tutor to focus on the areas you find most difficult so you can find solutions together.

Can I work with the same tutor more than once?

Yes, you can meet once with a tutor or schedule weekly or monthly meetings with that same person. If you find that another tutor’s learning style or schedule fits your needs better, you are always welcome to start meeting with them instead.

What if I don't see a tutor available for my class?

If your specific course isn't listed, you can also contact the Student Success Center directly or email academicsuccess@byu.edu. We can connect you with a lead tutor or mentor who can assist with pacing guides, time management, and test-taking strategies regardless of the course material.
