What is Academic Coaching?

Academic coaching is a one-on-one partnership with a full-time professional coach who helps you reflect, ask good questions, and plan next steps. You bring your experiences what’s working, what’s challenging, and what matters most.

What Makes Coaching Different

Coaching focuses on helping you learn how to learn. Rather than giving answers, coaches help you think through challenges, make decisions, and take ownership of your progress.

You’ll practice setting goals and following through—skills that matter in school and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions About Coaching
What's the difference between coaching and mentoring?

Academic Coaching and Peer Mentoring are very similar. Both can help you develop effective learning strategies, strengthen study habits, improve time management, stay motivated, and work toward your goals.

The biggest difference is who you're working with. Academic Coaches are full-time professionals with specialized training in coaching and student development. Peer Mentors are successful students who have been where you are and can offer encouragement, accountability, and practical advice from their own experiences.

Is academic coaching only for students who are struggling?

No, coaching is designed for any student interested in making major strides forward in their academic journey. It is designed to help all students improve their skills and succeed academically, whether you are facing challenges or just want to do even better.

What do I need to bring to a coaching session?

Just yourself, and willingness to learn and grow.

How long are the sessions?

Session lengths vary, but they are typically 30 to 45 minutes to ensure there is enough time for meaningful discussion and planning.

Do I need to come prepared?

Extensive preparation isn't required, but thinking about your goals or challenges ahead of time can help the conversation. Coaches won't just give you the answers; they ask questions to help you think through decisions and take ownership of your progress.

Can I work with the same coach every time?

Yes, depending on availability, you can continue working with the same coach to maintain consistency in your progress.
