Why Meet With a Mentor

Mentoring is personalized, student-to-student support focused on your experience. Mentors are university students who can help you talk through challenges, explore strategies, and move forward with confidence and clarity. They are personal accountability partners and friends that aim to help students improve grades, stay on track, and enjoy learning!

A mentor can help you:

  • Stay organized with practical time-management strategies
  • Build motivation through encouragement and accountability
  • Learn study and test-prep approaches that fit how you learn
  • Feel supported by a fellow student who understands your experience

Trained. Trusted. Here to Help.

Mentors are current BYU students with a strong academic record who understand the realities of balancing classes, work, and life. Each mentor has been CRLA certified and carefully background-checked to ensure professionalism and safety.

Hear From Your Peers

This mentoring program is not only essential, it is amazing! I make an appointment without knowing where I even need to go. By the next week there are a few questions and the answers are always more in-depth than I even knew I needed! So grateful for this added element this is whole online experience.

My Peer Mentor also shared some helpful advice with me. I have learned some valuable studying skills as well as learning more about me. And was listening when i was talking. It was a great meeting.

Frequently Asked Questions About Mentoring
Who are the mentors?

Peer Mentors are trained, CRLA‑certified BYU students selected for both their academic strength and their ability to support others. As fellow students, they provide thoughtful guidance, connection, and encouragement in a welcoming, non‑judgmental environment.

What do we talk about?

Mentoring conversations are flexible and can focus on adjusting to college, setting goals, and navigating various challenges. You can also talk about improving specific skills like time management, learner motivation, organization, or study strategies.

How often can I meet with my mentor?

You should schedule meetings based on your goals and availability. Some students prefer weekly support and accountability, while others check in occasionally as needed.

What if I'm nervous?

Feeling nervous is completely normal, and our mentors truly understand that. They strive to create a low-pressure, welcoming environment where you can share as much or as little as you are comfortable with. Most students find that after the first meeting, the experience feels much easier.
