At the CE BYU Student Success Center, we are committed to supporting you and helping create an accessible learning experience. Our Accessibility and Accommodations process is designed to make sure students with documented needs can receive the support they need to succeed in their courses.

The best way to get started is by visiting our Accessibility and Accommodations page using the link below. There, you will find the Accommodation Request Form along with helpful information about the types of documentation we accept and require. To keep your information secure and ensure your request is processed as efficiently as possible, we are not able to accept accommodation requests through email.

What Happens Next

Once we receive your completed form and documentation, our team will review your request and follow up with next steps. Processing can take up to three weeks, although we always try to respond sooner. We recommend submitting your request early in your course to help avoid delays.

We are here to help and want this process to feel clear and manageable. If you have questions at any point, please email us at byuceaccommodations@byu.edu. We look forward to working with you.

General Questions
What accommodations are available?

Common accommodations include extended time on tests, the use of a reader or scribe, and access to speech-to-text or text-to-speech tools. Accommodations are determined individually based on documented needs and may vary by student.

Is there a limit to the number of accommodations a student can receieve?

No. Accommodation requests are reviewed individually, and approved accommodations must be supported by appropriate documentation.

How is my privacy protected during the accommodations process?

We follow FERPA regulations to protect student information. Access is limited to authorized individuals with a legitimate educational need.

Are there additional costs for accommodations?

No. There are no additional fees beyond course enrollment. However, students are responsible for obtaining and submitting required documentation from a qualified professional.

For Students
What are accommodations, and how do I request them?

Accommodations provide students with accommodation needs additional support to access course materials and participate fully without changing core course requirements. To request accommodations, visit the Accessibility and Accommodations page to complete the request form and review documentation requirements. Documentation may include a letter from a qualified medical or mental health professional, a psychoeducational or neuroeducational evaluation, or an IEP or 504 Plan. Documentation should generally be current within the past three years.

How do accommodations work for multiple or future courses?

You may request accommodations for multiple courses at the same time, and approved accommodations are automatically applied to your active courses. If you enroll in additional courses later, email byuceaccommodations@byu.edu so previously approved accommodations supported by current documentation can be applied to your new course(s).

Can I request changes or updates to my accommodations?

Yes. You may request updates at any time by submitting a new request form or contacting byuceaccommodations@byu.edu. Any changes must be supported by current documentation.

How long does the review process take, and what happens after approval?

Requests are typically reviewed within three weeks. After review, you will receive either a decision or a request for additional information. Once approved, accommodations are applied to your active courses, and you will receive a confirmation email. Accommodations apply moving forward from the date of approval.

What if I disagree with a decision or believe accommodations are not being implemented correctly?

You may respond to your decision email or contact byuceaccommodationsappeals@byu.edu. If you experience concerns with accommodation implementation, contact byuceaccommodations@byu.edu and include the issue in the subject line.
